NO DECLARED EMERGENCIES ON INDIANA UNIVERSITY BLOOMINGTON INFORMATION MESSAGE When an alert sounds, e.g., a tornado warning, this web page is not usually the best source of immediate information.
There are a number of reasons for this. Considerations include the time of day and day of week (i.e., who is available to make ongoing updates), the sudden
load of activity accompanying such an alert (IUPD will be swamped with calls and unable to make continuing web page updates), and technology service interruptions. For immediate, minute-to-minute information your best source is a radio or TV station. Below is a list of area stations
with links to their websites.
Beginning April 7, 2000 the Monroe County emergency sirens will be tested at noon on the first Friday of each month. Be forewarned: the siren tones found below are very loud!
When you hear a steady wail it means that a tornado has been sighted in Monroe County or the
National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning. Take cover immediately. Tune to local cable TV or radio stations.
When you hear a fast wail it means that some type of unusual emergency has occured, such as a
hazardous chemical spill. Go indoors. Tune to a local cable TV channel or radio stations for
further instructions.
